Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc.)This website (see “The website thirstygarden.com”) and forwarding email to privacy@thirstygarden.com and hallo@thirstygarden.com; no data from the appCloudflare’s global network; transfers under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework

Without personal data we also use: KNMI (weather data) and Anthropic (translates plant descriptions; only receives plant texts).

You install the app through Google Play; Google’s privacy policy applies to that.

Data outside the EU

Expo and GitHub process data in the United States; Google (notifications and our mailbox) and Cloudflare (website and email) use a global network. For all four, transfers are based on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework: Expo (650 Industries, Inc.), Google LLC, Cloudflare, Inc. and GitHub are on the list of participants at dataprivacyframework.gov. Supabase, Resend and Sentry are US companies that store your data in the EU but may access it for operations and support; this is covered by their data processing agreements with the standard contractual clauses.

Crash reports

If the app crashes or hits an unexpected error, it sends a technical error report to Sentry. This helps us find and fix bugs.

What it contains: the error message and where in the code it happened, the app and update version, the Android version, the make and model of your phone, technical details about the state of your phone (such as memory and battery level), the app language, and a short list of technical steps just before the error (for example which kind of server request failed).

What it does not contain: your name, email address, account, any phone or installation identifier, your IP address or your location. Plant names, photos and notes are never included. Sentry does receive your IP address as part of the internet connection, but does not store it.

Why and on what basis: to keep the app working and reliable. This is our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). Because the report only serves to measure the quality of the app and has hardly any impact on your privacy, we do not ask for separate consent.

Where and how long: Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.) processes the reports on our behalf. Reports are stored in Frankfurt, Germany. Sentry is a US company and may access the data for operations and support under its data processing agreement. Reports are deleted after 30 days.

Turning it off: in the app under Settings → Send crash reports. When it is off, the app no longer sends reports. Because reports cannot be linked to you or your phone, we cannot look them up or delete them per person.

The website thirstygarden.com

This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no trackers, and loads nothing from other websites: the font, images and styling all come from thirstygarden.com itself. We do not keep visitor statistics.

The website is hosted by Cloudflare. On every visit, Cloudflare as the host processes your IP address and technical details of the request (such as the time, the page requested and the type of browser), to deliver the page and to protect the website against misuse and attacks. This is our legitimate interest: a website that works and is secure. Cloudflare’s privacy policy does not state a fixed retention period for this data.

Deleting your account

Crash reports are not linked to your account; they disappear automatically after 30 days. We keep the email with any feedback you sent for at most 1 year after the last email in the conversation. If you asked us by email to delete your account, we keep the emails about it until 30 days after we have handled the request. At Expo, the push token and the ID per installation of your phone remain, without your email address or account (see the table above). There are no backups in which your data remains: no backups are made on the free plan of Supabase.

Your rights

You have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict processing, to object to processing based on legitimate interest, and to receive your data in a common format. Much of this you can do yourself in the app: change your postcode, plants and notifications, turn off crash reports and delete your account. For anything else, email privacy@thirstygarden.com. We respond within one month.

If you disagree with how we handle your data, you can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl).

Security

All connections are encrypted (HTTPS). You can only see and change your own data; the database itself enforces this. Keys for external services are only on the server, never in the app. Passwords are only stored encrypted (as a hash).

Age

Thirsty Garden is intended for people aged 16 and over.

Changes

If we change this policy, the new version is published on this page. The date of the last change is shown at the top. We announce important changes in advance: on this page and with a notice on the home page of thirstygarden.com, with the date on which the change takes effect.
